Alliance Tower Defense Insane Mode Guide (Camera Lab Preparation)

The pre-flight checklist for Alliance Tower Defense! Insane mode: the 3x enemy multiplier, the Scientist Crate payout, team shape, Auto Skip rules, and the budget three-unit loadout — checked 2026-10-15.

Quick answer: Insane is an upgrade-discipline check with a crate payout

Insane (Camera Lab) pays 850 Coins plus a Scientist Crate per clear — the only regular source of the economy units every endgame team wants. The map is a single path, but the August 10 rebalance set enemies to a 3x multiplier, which punishes two things specifically: incomplete upgrades and Auto Skip greed. Come in with a carry you can actually afford to max plus an early-DPS unit, keep skipping conservative until the first boss is readable, and change exactly one variable between attempts. A documented budget loadout (Plunger Camera Man + Large TV Man + Titan Speaker Man) clears it without any event or Robux units.

Pre-flight

The checklist before you queue Insane

From the community strategy guide's preparation doctrine, cross-checked against creator clears.

  1. 1. Medium and Crazy no longer scare you

Prerequisite: 1-player Easy City is automatic, and Medium (and ideally Crazy) are cleared without panic. If Medium still demands attention, farm there another day — Insane attempts cost 20+ minutes each.

  2. 2. Two maxable roles, no more

Equip a carry you can fund to max this match plus an early-DPS unit (Large Scientist Camera Man is ideal: 96 base DPS, base heal, and slow). A pretty Titan you cannot upgrade this match is storage, not a win condition.

  3. 3. Economy first, carry second

Open with Scientist Camera Man if you own it — income from wave 2 funds the carry's ladder. On the funnel pad, place the carry and start the place-then-max ladder immediately.

  4. 4. Auto Skip discipline

Off until the first boss timing is readable. On once your core is maxed. Off again the moment a wave leaks. Insane taxes incomplete upgrades harder than any earlier mode, and skipping hides exactly the information you need.

  5. 5. One change per attempt

After a failed attempt, change one thing: placement pad, one upgrade order, one unit swap. After a clean clear, change one thing before the next. Attempt-to-attempt learning is how the crate printer comes online.

  6. 6. Time the session

Don't queue a 20+ minute attempt inside a title window you can't use. If an X2 Coins tag is live, spend it farming a mode you cannot fail; take it to Insane only when the window is long enough.

If stuck

Where Insane attempts usually break

Early waves leak

Your early-DPS slot is missing or under-placed. Large Scientist Camera Man (or any Epic with wave-one coverage) buys the carry its ramp time.

Boss outscales the carry

The carry isn't reaching max, or the max is too late. Move the carry to the true funnel pad and re-check your upgrade order — Scientist income should be paying by mid-game.

One leak at the very end

Classic skip-tax loss: Auto Skip pushed a wave past an unmaxed ladder. Turn it off a wave earlier next attempt; the fix is timing, not team value.

Consistent 80% clears

Stop changing the team. The consistency problem is almost always upgrade order — write down the order you used on the clean attempt and repeat it exactly.

Roster genuinely too small

Go print Scientist Crates another way: Crazy pays 1,000 Coins + a Spin Ticket per clear, and the Coins fund pulls that widen the roster.

Nothing works

Check the update page — the August rebalance changed Insane's multiplier once already. A fresh rebalance can invalidate a working setup overnight.

FAQ

Insane questions

How hard is Insane mode in Alliance Tower Defense?

It is the game's first real stat check: the August 10 rebalance set the enemy multiplier to 3x on the Camera Lab map. A roster that clears Medium comfortably usually needs one more maxable unit plus real upgrade discipline before the first Insane clear lands.

What does Insane mode give you?

850 Coins plus 1 Scientist Crate per clear. The crate is the point: it contains the Scientist Camera Man economy unit at 95%, Large Scientist Camera Man at 4.8%, and Engineer Camera Man at 0.2%.

Can you beat Insane without Legendaries or Mythics?

Yes. A community creator (PeaceBringer) documents a three-unit clear using Plunger Camera Man, Large TV Man, and Titan Speaker Man — no event or Robux units. The pattern is the same as every mode: one funded carry, early coverage, one change at a time between attempts.

Should I use Auto Skip in Insane?

Not at first. Keep it off until the first boss timing is readable, enable it after your core is maxed, and toggle it off the moment a wave outruns your upgrades. Insane taxes greedy skipping harder than any earlier mode.

Step-by-step: the Insane pre-flight

  1. 1. Bring the economy: Scientist Camera Man first, carries second — Insane pays in Scientist Crates, not raw Coins.
  2. 2. Upgrade in the documented order and keep coverage on every lane before chasing DPS.
  3. 3. Reserve cash for the late waves the checklist warns about instead of maxing early.
  4. 4. Open your Scientist Crates only after the run — the 95% common roll funds the dupe trade later.

If you're stuck

If the run dies mid-wave, it is usually a coverage gap, not an upgrade shortage — replay the wave, note which lane leaked, and fix that placement before touching the build.

Common mistakes

Queuing Insane with a farm loadout built for Easy City, skipping the Scientist Crate economy that justifies the mode, and blaming RNG for leaks a placement change would fix.
